Back to Havasupai: A Second Trip to Arizona’s Blue-Green Falls
Some places are worth going back to, and Havasupai is definitely one of them. I returned for a second year in a row, this time with a mix of new friends and a few familiar faces from the year before.
Same trail, same magic
The hike down into the canyon was just as demanding the second time around, but somehow the views were even more incredible than I remembered. There’s something about the turquoise water against red desert rock that doesn’t lose its impact no matter how many times you see it. Traveling with a mix of old and new friends made the trip feel completely different from the first — same waterfalls, new stories, and just as much sunburn.
Shooting it all again
I photographed this trip on my Canon 5D Mark III with a 50mm f/1.4 and a 24-70mm f/2.8, the same setup that’s become my go-to for backcountry trips like this one — light enough to hike with, versatile enough to handle everything from wide canyon landscapes to close portraits of the group along the trail.
