Lake Tahoe: A Road Trip Through California and Nevada
A roadtrip from the Sacramento area up into the mountains led us straight to Lake Tahoe – and once we arrived, we made sure to see it from both sides of the state line. There’s something about the drive up out of the valley: the air gets cooler, the trees get taller, and suddenly you’re staring at one of the clearest lakes in the country.
South Lake Tahoe, California
We started on the California side, exploring South Lake Tahoe’s mix of alpine forest and that impossibly blue water the lake is famous for. It’s the kind of place where the scenery does most of the work – turquoise water rimmed by pine trees and mountains in every direction.
Chasing the Nevada shoreline
From there we made our way around to the Nevada side, following the shoreline for a different perspective on the same lake. Tahoe sits right on the California-Nevada border, so a single roadtrip gets you two very different vibes without ever leaving the water’s edge.
