Some trips you don’t see coming, and this one topped the list of reasons I was thankful that year. My work nominated and chose me for a free trip to Miami Beach, Florida, with a stay at the iconic, mid-century-glam Fontainebleau — and it was an absolute blast. That stretch of South Beach coastline is reason enough to visit on its own, camera or not.
Somewhat unusual for me, I hardly picked up my camera at all — I was too busy actually enjoying the trip instead of documenting every second of it. Sometimes that’s the whole point of a vacation, and I let myself have that.
On my last day, I finally took a walk down the beach and let myself photograph it properly, chasing that tropical, sun-soaked Miami light I don’t get to shoot nearly often enough back home.
If Miami’s warm light and beach-town energy speak to you the way it does to me, I’d love to help capture your own trip or session there.

The Fontainebleau is an iconic mid-century hotel right on Miami Beach’s famous stretch of South Beach coastline.
Late afternoon into sunset gives Miami Beach that warm, tropical golden light that makes for the most memorable travel photos.
