This gorgeous wedding took place at the Historic Rice Mill in Charleston, South Carolina — and it was anything but a typical Charleston affair.
A Bold Departure from Traditional Charleston Style
Kathleen, an interior designer by trade, took a dedicated and unmistakably unique approach to decorating the venue for her and Brandon’s wedding. Black florals, a black wedding cake, and vintage details set the tone for the entire day, a striking contrast to the traditional light-and-bright weddings Charleston is known for. Every detail felt intentional, curated, and completely her own.
The Rice Mill itself brought its own quiet drama to the day — exposed brick, soaring ceilings, and the kind of historic character that doesn’t need much dressing up. Paired with Kathleen’s darker, more editorial styling, the space felt less like a wedding venue and more like a set built specifically for this couple.
From Colonial Lake to the Dance Floor
The day started with getting ready at nearby hotels before Kathleen and Brandon shared their first look at Colonial Lake. From there it was on to the ceremony at the Rice Mill, and finally a night full of dancing with friends and family under the same moody, elegant styling that defined the whole celebration.
