A Day of Water & Land Safari in Chobe National Park, Botswana
Some of the best travel days aren’t planned months in advance — this one came together as a day trip across the border, and it ended up being one of the highlights of the whole journey.
Crossing Into Botswana
From my base in Zambia, I spent a day in Chobe National Park, just across the border in neighboring Botswana. It’s a park with a big reputation, and the wildlife along the Chobe River more than lived up to it.
Two Safaris, One Day
We split the day between a water safari, gliding along the river as animals came down to drink, and a land safari, tracking wildlife from the ground. Seeing the same landscape from both angles gave a completely different sense of scale and movement — the river safari especially put us eye-level with animals we’d only ever seen from a distance.
Tourism That Gives Back
Trips like this are also a reminder of why sustainable tourism matters. It’s one of the ways African countries can use their natural resources to benefit local economies while still protecting them for the long run.
