Snoqualmie Pass, WA in the Snow
Somewhere between the greater Seattle area and Eastern Washington — a totally different planet, weather-wise — lies Snoqualmie Pass. It is one of my favorite drives when I am missing snow, and a great excuse to see some of Washington’s reservoirs along the way.
When the snow comes down to the road
You can visit Snoqualmie Pass for a snowy escape most of the year, but these photos were taken in February, when the snow drops all the way down to road level instead of staying tucked up in the mountains. There is something about driving through it at that time of year, everything hushed and white, the evergreens dusted in snow, that makes the whole trip feel like its own little adventure.
A favorite Pacific Northwest detour
Whether you are a Seattle local craving snow without a long drive, or just passing through on your way east, Snoqualmie Pass is worth the stop. It is proof that some of the best travel photos do not require a plane ticket, just a willingness to pull over and look around at the mountains and reservoirs along the way.
