Every once in a while, I like to step in front of the camera instead of behind it — and this Halloween, that meant a moody portrait session in a historic Charleston cemetery.
A creative collaboration with local talent
This one was a fun team effort with two local creatives: photographer Nicole Mickle captured the images, and hair, makeup, and headpiece design came from the talented Rosa Martinez. Between the fog, the old stone markers, and the golden late-October light, Charleston’s cemeteries make for an undeniably atmospheric backdrop — equal parts eerie and beautiful.
Finding the ghost
I modeled for this session myself, leaning into a little Halloween drama among the headstones. If you look closely through the gallery, see if you can spot the ghost hiding in one of the frames.
