A Folklore-Inspired Portrait Session in the Redwoods
Some of my favorite portraits happen almost by accident – or, more accurately, because I refuse to leave the house without a dress stuffed in my backpack, just in case.

This short series came together on a hike through the Redwood National Forest with my dear friend Samantha. We’re both the type of weird artists who pack a dress on a hike on the off chance we stumble into some magic in the woods – and on this trip, we did.
Inspired by Folklore
I’d had Taylor Swift’s album Folklore on repeat for weeks, and something about its quiet, wooded, slightly haunted mood was exactly what I wanted to chase among the redwoods. Towering trees, soft light filtering through the canopy, one dress, one friend – that was the whole plan.
Finding magic in the woods
There’s something about giant, ancient trees that makes you want to move a little slower and look a little closer, and that’s exactly the energy we brought to this session. No elaborate setup, no big production – just two friends, good light, and a forest that did most of the work for us.
