Some sessions feel less like work and more like a reunion, and this one was exactly that.
I caught up with an old friend while photographing her adorable family during late summer here in the PNW. We picked a stretch of beach in Seattle, WA and let the golden evening light do most of the work.
Her two boys were absolute angels, and honestly, their overalls plus lollipops just really sealed the deal to make these some of my favorite family photos I've taken. There's something about kids in their element — sandy toes, sticky hands, big laughs — that makes for the kind of photos families actually treasure years later.
If you're dreaming of a relaxed, candid family session on the Seattle coastline,
Reconnecting with a friend behind the camera adds a layer of ease that's hard to manufacture with new clients — we already knew each other's rhythms, so the session felt more like an afternoon hangout than a shoot. That comfort shows up in the photos: unguarded smiles, real laughter, kids being exactly who they are instead of posing for the camera. It's a good reminder that some of the best family portraits happen when everyone stops trying so hard and just enjoys being together.
If you're dreaming of a relaxed, candid family session on the Seattle coastline, I'd love to help you capture it.

I love shooting along Seattle-area beaches for their soft evening light and easy access to the water — happy to recommend a spot based on your family’s style.
Comfortable layers in soft, coordinating colors work great — and don’t be afraid to let kids be kids, like this family’s overalls and lollipops.
Most family sessions run about an hour, which is plenty of time to capture posed portraits and candid, playful moments.
