Last December, Lyndsey reached out about doing some photos of her, her husband Ryan, and their two pups. It had been almost four years since their wedding, and they had not had a single professional photo taken since.
A Cold, Snowy Session at That PNW Cabin
They were spending a weekend at That PNW Cabin, so I met them out there on a properly cold, rainy day. By the time we finished, all four of us, Ryan, Lyndsey, and their two dogs, were thoroughly soaked. But the snow that had just fallen gave us the most beautiful backdrop, and honestly, some of my favorite family sessions come out of days exactly like this one.
Intimate Portraits at That PNW Cabin
My little A-frame cabin sits at the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, where some of the best outdoor adventures in the state are just a short drive away. Visit in spring and you can hike among wildflowers to hidden waterfalls. Come in winter and there is snowshoeing, or a quick trip up to Stevens Pass for a day on the slopes. No matter the season, it is the kind of place that is perfect to come back to and just relax. There is a coziness to the cabin that photographs so well, all warm light through the windows and quiet mountain views, whether the weather cooperates or not.

I love sessions like Ryan and Lyndsey’s because they are a reminder that family photos do not have to mean a big formal production. Sometimes it is just two people, their dogs, and a snowy afternoon at a cabin in the mountains, and that is more than enough to make something worth keeping.
