A Summer Wedding at Snowbowl Ski Resort in Montana
Ski resorts aren't just good for skiing during those winter months — they can also make for a stunning backdrop for a summer wedding, and that's exactly what we found at Snowbowl.
A wedding day made for the mountains
Snowbowl is located north of Missoula, MT, and on this particular day the temperature was perfect and the sun was shining. You really couldn't have asked for a better day to get married. The ceremony was held outside with the mountains rising up as a backdrop, and it felt like the whole valley showed up to witness it.
A chairlift first look
Instead of the usual walk down a hallway or across a garden, this couple took a chairlift ride to the top of the mountain for their first look — which might be one of my favorite first-look setups I've ever photographed. We hung around up there for a while afterward soaking in the views and grabbing a few more portraits before heading back down for the celebration.
There's something about seeing a couple's reaction to each other against a backdrop like that — wide open sky, evergreens rolling down the slope, no one else around — that makes the whole day feel bigger than a single ceremony. It set the tone for everything that followed: relaxed, a little adventurous, and completely unhurried.
