Some of my favorite photos happen in the in-between moments — like this one. I’d spent the weekend modeling for a styled session at Middleton Place, and once the shoot wrapped, I couldn’t resist sticking around a little longer to wander the gardens on my own, camera in hand.

Middleton Place is one of those Charleston-area spots that photographs beautifully no matter which direction you point the lens — sprawling, historic gardens with plenty of quiet corners to explore once the crowds and the crew have cleared out. Those few minutes alone with my camera turned into some of my favorite shots from the whole weekend.
