Munich, Germany: A First Visit Through a Local’s Eyes
My first time in Germany was such a refreshing experience, and Munich made an unforgettable introduction to the country. I’m lucky to have a few German friends from my time in the US, and this trip meant finally visiting my friend Max on his home turf, where he turned out to be the best possible host.
Biking through the city with Max
Max took my friend and me on a full bike ride throughout Munich, weaving through the city so we could see it the way locals do. We wandered through Christmas markets, ate the local food, and drank the local beers, the kind of day that makes you fall for a place fast.
A river wave, forbidden dancing, and homemade breakfasts
Some of my favorite moments were the ones I never would have found on my own. Max showed us the river where he surfs one continuous standing wave, an image I still can’t quite get over. We even went dancing on a night when, apparently, dancing was technically illegal in the country. Every morning started with a homemade breakfast from our wonderful host, the kind of hospitality that makes a trip feel like more than a visit.
