Liz and Aubrey were visiting Charleston, SC, and reached out for a few photos together, so we headed to the beach for a sunset mommy and me session.
We spent sunset on Sullivan’s Island, and it was cold enough that we practically had the whole beach to ourselves. There’s something really special about that kind of quiet, no crowds, no noise, just the sound of the waves and these two beauties enjoying their time together. We let Aubrey lead the way, chasing the tide line and digging in the sand while Liz stayed close, and the best photos came out of just letting that unfold naturally.
Sullivan’s Island is one of my favorite beach spots near Charleston for family sessions, quiet, uncrowded, and beautiful in every season, even, and maybe especially, when it’s a little too cold for swimming. There’s a softness to the light here at sunset that you don’t get in the middle of a crowded summer afternoon, and it’s exactly what a quiet mommy and me session calls for.
It was chilly, no doubt about it, but Liz and Aubrey handled it like pros, and it barely shows in the photos. Sessions like this one are all about capturing a fleeting moment, your little one at exactly this age, this stage, this closeness, before it changes all over again.
If you’re visiting Charleston or already call it home and want a beach session of your own, I’d love to help you capture it.

Yes, I love photographing families who are visiting Charleston, like Liz and Aubrey, as well as locals looking for a beach session.
