A Bright & Airy Portrait Session in Downtown Charleston
This sweet girl. Wow. I first wanted to photograph Sally because I fell in love with her hair and her features – I had a whole concept in my head, and I just knew she’d be the one to bring it to life. Then I actually met her, and it turned out her personality was even more magnetic than the look I’d been chasing.
A different kind of light for me
For this session I leaned into a bright and airy look, which honestly isn’t my go-to – my style tends to run moodier and more dramatic. But for this particular concept, bright and airy was exactly right, and it pushed me to shoot a little outside my own comfort zone.
Two looks in one session
We didn’t stop at one mood, though. Partway through, we shifted into a handful of moodier portraits that feel a lot closer to how I normally shoot, so you’ll see some range in the gallery below – light and soft in one frame, rich and moody in the next.
Exploring Downtown Charleston
We wandered through Downtown Charleston, SC for this one, using the city’s light, texture, and architecture as our backdrop. Charleston has a way of giving you a dozen different looks within a few blocks, which made it the perfect setting for a session with this much range.
