PNW Women’s Circle: A Retreat at an A-Frame Cabin in the Cascades
Our PNW women’s circle was a few days at an A-frame cabin in the Cascade Mountains, a small group of women stepping back to look at the stories we get handed about ourselves and decide which ones to keep.
We arrived on a Friday afternoon, wrote down what we each wanted from the weekend, and started in on a group project we would build the whole time. The first night ended with s’mores and a conversation that went a lot deeper than s’mores usually call for.
Mornings in the mountains
We started the next day with coffee and a meditation circle outside in the cold mountain air. In the afternoon, guest speakers Alixia and Tiffany walked us through new ways to sit with anxiety and body confidence. Later we found a quiet spot in the rainforest and made portraits of each other. Watching women who had felt invisible step in front of the camera and actually take up space was the best part of my weekend.
What our PNW women’s circle looked like
The last day went entirely to the group project, built around shame, vulnerability, connection, and the messy middle of change. Everyone brought something different to it. By the end it was a real piece of work made by a group of women who had been strangers on Friday. That one still gets me.
