Every year I help lead a small women’s retreat somewhere wild. In 2024 that meant five days road-tripping through Jackson Hole and Yellowstone, and I still catch myself thinking about it.
Yellowstone does something to your sense of scale. The land just keeps going, and the geysers go off on their own schedule whether anyone is watching or not. We slowed way down. Some afternoons we sat on the trail and sketched, which sounds precious until you actually do it and realize you haven’t looked at anything that closely in years. At night we went back to our geodome cabins. It took about one evening for them to feel like ours.
One day we rode through the valley with the Tetons off in the distance, nobody saying much. That same night we ended up at a local cowboy bar and stayed until our feet gave out. No one planned that part, which is usually how the best nights go.
We found hot springs almost by accident and soaked while the air turned cold around us. Every night came back to a fire. That is when people tend to stop performing and start telling you the truth about their lives, and this group did.
I photograph these trips, but I spend half of each one just glad to be there. This crew was funny and up for anything, and I would go back with them tomorrow.

We based it in the Jackson Hole area of Wyoming, with days spent in Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.
Horseback riding through the valley, sketching on the trails, a soak in the hot springs, campfire nights, and a lot of open road. We stayed in geodome cabins.
Women who want to get outside, meet good people, and slow down for a few days. You do not need to be an artist or an athlete. Most people come on their own and leave with new friends.
Yes. I help run and photograph small women’s retreats in places like this. If you want to plan one or have me document yours, reach out any time.
Late summer and early fall are hard to beat. The light runs long, the crowds thin out, and the air gets that first bite of cold that makes a campfire feel earned.
If you have been looking for a women’s adventure retreat, a small group trip with real people and no set agenda, or a photographer to come document one, this is the kind of thing I love being part of. Tell me what you have in mind and we will figure it out together.
