Every once in a while, I like to trade the camera for the other side of the lens. This fall, my good friend Jenn and I headed out to Folly Beach for an afternoon of portraits together, with the wide open sand and easy light doing a lot of the work for us.
Photos this time around were taken by Reagan Hembree, which meant I got to actually be present in the photos instead of directing from behind the viewfinder — a nice change of pace, and a reminder of how much fun it is to just be a subject for a day.
My dress and hat came from Free People, and my sweater, boots, and necklace were Forever21 — an easy, breezy combination that felt right for a beach afternoon with a best friend.
If a relaxed, golden-light portrait session with someone you love sounds like your kind of afternoon, Folly Beach is a beautiful place to make it happen.

Yes — Folly Beach’s wide sand, easy public access, and soft coastal light near Charleston, SC make it a favorite spot for portrait and friendship sessions.
Light, flowy pieces in soft, natural tones photograph beautifully against sand and water — think breezy dresses, simple layers, and comfortable footwear you can walk in.
